About Parentology World

Parenting teens is tough and nobody hands you a manual.

I’m Laura Thomas, parenting coach and mentor, qualified psychotherapist, author, and mum of two teens!

I’ve spent over 22 years supporting families through some of the hardest parts of raising adolescents — from explosive outbursts and shut-downs to anxiety, school refusal, and everything in between.

And here’s what I know for sure:
Parents are absolutely the missing link in teen mental health.

You see your child at their worst, but you’re often left out of the solution. You’re told to “stay calm” and “set boundaries” but no one explains how. You ask for help, but services say, “It’s not serious enough yet.”

That’s not good enough.
So I built something better.

Welcome to Parentology World!

I don’t know what to say anymore.

Why I Created Parentology World

The final push came in summer 2024. A mum contacted me in pieces, her teenage daughter was struggling, and she’d been turned away from services again. “Not bad enough,” they said. But her daughter’s arms were covered in self-inflicted scars.

That was it.

Parents shouldn’t have to wait for a crisis to get support.
You shouldn’t be brushed off just because things aren’t quite bad enough yet.

Parentology World exists to give you the tools, answers, and expert guidance you need — before things get worse.

Whether you’re worried about your teen’s behaviour, mental health, school attendance, wellbeing, or family tension... if it’s keeping you up at 2am, I’ve got you

The R.E.S.E.T. Method

Over the years, I’ve developed a five-step method to help you stay calm, be clear, and respond confidently, even when emotions run high.

This method is at the heart of everything I offer. Whether you're using a free tool, reading one of my books, or working with me 1:1, RESET gives you a structure that makes sense in real family life.

R – Recognise the issue
Notice what’s really going on beneath the surface — behaviour is communication.

E – Empathise in the moment
Respond with connection first, not correction. Let your teen feel seen and heard.

S – Say what matters
Get clear on the values or boundaries that need to be reinforced – without the lecture.

E – Emotionally regulate together
Support your teen in calming down by staying steady yourself.

T – Take action with confidence
Choose a clear, calm next step that builds trust and teaches your teen what to do next time.

If you want to go deeper, my two books break RESET down further with clear, real-life strategies for common struggles:

Parenting Teen Boys with Confidence

Parenting Unstoppable Girls

They're designed to be picked up on your hardest days and still make sense!

You explained things so clearly and really took the time to listen. We never felt rushed or dismissed. You helped us make sense of what was going on beneath the surface, and gave us steps we could actually follow through with. For the first time in a long time, we felt confident and that we could be supported with your help.
